OUR HISTORY

The Hardy Plant Society was established in 1996. Articles of incorporation were filed with the State of Michigan in 1998 by Maryann Whitman, Janet Zemke, and Jim Mackinder.

Initial meetings were held at Bowers School Farm in Bloomfield Hills, MI. The meetings eventually transitioned to the Congregational Church of Birmingham, located in Bloomfield Hills. The HPS settled in and met there through October 2024.

In November 2024, the group’s new home became the Birmingham First United
Methodist Church in Birmingham, MI.

OUR MISSION:

To promote interest in plants that are hardy in the Great Lakes region, especially perennials and woody ornamentals, and how to integrate them into our gardens.
